Good Morning, Good Morning!
It’s Sunday. This is the first day I haven’t been eyeballs deep in trying to learn WordPress tutorials. Phew! 😮💨 Let me tell you, those 2 weeks, that’s its own saga all in itself, and honestly, one I am not trying to relive again right now. I almost reached burnout.. But here we are, she powered through, and now, for the moment, I have a site I’m pretty damn proud of. I created this bicch. 🫣💁🏻♀️
And since I’m actually coming up for air, I figured I’d start here- Back to mornings, back to routine.
Today is the second day of marathon training. Technically, I’ve signed up for a half-marathon in November, but I am choosing to torture myself by training for a full marathon. Thank you, “Runna” – you really know how to encourage overachievers and competitiveness. Either way, I’m people. And I have a little superpower called hyperfixation. –
While we were on Vacation, there was no running. Our legs were pretty much broken from hiking, lol. So, when I got home, I gave myself a few days to just chill. I knew I was about to jump right back into it though, and I was dreading it. I just came off this huge high while we were in the mountains, saying how “I’m going to work out so that I can hike up these mountains…” And it took me forcing myself (after skipping my first day) – to start my Day 1.
And here I am, day 2 of Marathon training, back at it. I’m not questioning why I do this to myself, because I know my why. Women’s strength in their thirties matters… and I’m not just saying that. There is research from
“The Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation”..
“ found that women who kept up consistent activity in midlife had significantly better physical function later on (El Khoudary et al., 2017).”
Also rude- midlife- pfft. (This is me accepting I’m almost 40 btw).
Anyway, it’s not just for me. My son mirrors (subconsciously, obviously lol. he’s 17) everything we do. How we act, the way we treat and talk to each other, he picks up on it all. This has been an enormous learning curve for me, as I’ve had to process my own stuff to model the behaviors I’m still working on changing in myself. Fix it young, kind of thing.
Ultimately, he sees it all. And I want to teach him the importance of taking care of your mind, body, & spirit.
That’s what this season of life is really about for me right now- showing up for myself every day. Proving to both of us that consistency, even in small doses, adds up big time. Not just in running, though, or working out. But, in all of it. I am so hyper aware of the impression I am making right now, and the tiny amount of time I have before he is ready to start his own journey, (🤮! ).
So, here we are. Day 2, and I’ve knocked out almost 10 miles… (smiles* because 10 is a big number.. For me.)
Also, this is where I had my brilliant Idea to start my 365 series. I want to look beyond just one day at a time. I am great at starting new things. I get hyped up and energized, and I can stay motivated for a good minute, but then (ADHD hits) I either go too hard, where burnout is inevitable, or I lose interest because I realize I am not aligned with that goal anymore.
I’ve said it before: this blog is my way of intentionally living and showing up for myself, so I can show up for the people closest to me. This is for me first, because if I’m not grounded, consistent, and practicing what I value, then I can’t expect to model that for my son.
I don’t want him to see a version of me that runs myself into the ground or gives up when it gets hard. I want him to see that messy middles are where the good stuff lives. – It’s proof that I do not have to be perfect to be consistent, and I don’t have to have it all figured out to start. One post, one run, one choice at a time. – It all stacks up.
So… to sum this up, I’ve invested in a few books I’m going to test out – each spanning 365 days with different lessons, intentions, and rituals. The idea is to use them as a guide while I figure out my own version of this 365-day project. You can find the list attached at the bottom of this post, in case you’re also interested in figuring out your own 365-day thang.
I don’t know if I’ll love all of them, or even stick with one the whole way through, but that’s kind of the point. This isn’t about perfect follow-through; it’s about choosing better. For myself, for my son, for my family.
Day 1 down, 364 to go.
xoxo, CD.
