This month has been an outlier in my ability to stay on track.
Writing has taken a backseat- but not for a loss of interest. Just a lack of words. And time.
Reading, however, and listening to things — has not. I’ve taken another deep dive into the podcast audiobook world and haven’t looked back once.
In honor of October and kicking off Spooky Season.
I had to throw in a couple of thrillers in the mix.

Watcher on the Edge – Jeff Marsick – This one surprised me. It’s got that psychological edge that keeps you slightly uneasy the whole time. The story plays with perspective in a way that makes you question what’s real, which I love. It’s not overdone. Just enough tension to keep you wanting one more chapter before bed.
Dark Places – Gillian Flynn – Ooh, this one was intense. This was my second Gillian Flynn Book, and it did not disappoint. She is very good at creating stories that pull you. They have been hard to put down. This one was pretty graphic; there were very sensitive topics that were spoken about in detail, and for some people, that could be hard to listen to.
The Chateau – Avery Bishop – This one was creepy!! In a slow-burn kind of way. It starts calmly, almost too calmly, and then everything starts to unravel. The setting feels so vivid that it almost becomes its own character. Definitely one of those stories where you catch yourself saying, “okay, just one more chapter”… five times in a row.
Game of Nines – James Patterson – This one was fast-paced and easy to follow. I finished this one in a day. I couldn’t turn it off. Shailene Woodley is always great, and having her narrate just added another layer to the story. I recommend this to anyone who is into thrillers and wants a quick and immersive read! 🙂
Reading Energy:
October felt more like observation than creation. Less output, more intake. It’s been nice to just listen for a change.
